What days do you teach?

Throughout the school term the studio is open Monday to Friday (with spots available during the day and after school), as well as all day Saturday and Sunday.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are mostly 30 minutes weekly, with some higher grade students requiring 45 or 60 minute lessons.

How much does it cost?

Fees for individual lessons are as follows, and are invoiced in full for each school term:

  • 30 minute lesson: $39 (incl. GST)
  • 45 minute lesson: $49 (incl. GST)
  • 60 minute lesson: $59 (incl. GST)

What do you do in a lesson?

Lessons are run according to the student’s needs on the day, and any long-term goals. Often we start with a warm up, and then move on to learning new pieces, or answering any questions or problems the student may have. We also try to allow time for listening activities, improvisation or composition, theory and reading music, as well as plenty of time for some musical games.

What do I need?

To begin with, just a piano or keyboard at home, and some quiet space to work in. We will ensure that you receive a folder, where we keep track of things to work on, and any music books that you may need.

What is a good age to start learning the piano?

In our experience, the best age to begin is around 7 years old. At this age, children have developed the fine motor skills needed to play the piano. They also know other necessary basics, such as counting and the alphabet, and are able to concentrate for a longer period of time. We also teach beginner adult students, so there is no age limit!

How much practice do I need to do?

Students will need to set aside time to practice regularly throughout the week to make progress between lessons, however the time spent practicing will vary depending on age and level. Beginners should aim for at least 5 minutes (ideally 5 days a week or more!), while students sitting grade exams would need to allow at least 30 minutes.
